A Technical Cooperation between Countries Programme was completed in December 2007. It was entitled “Sharing of Knowledge and Experiences regarding the Health of and provision of Health Service to Older Persons between Belize & Jamaica” and was funded by PAHO/WHO Belize\

In November a team of 4 persons visited Belize from Jamaica and then a reciprocal visit was made to Jamaica by Dr. Peter Allen from the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Marva Nicholas from the Mercy Care Centre and Ms. Lindy Jeffery, from the NCA.

The visit was very successful and allowed the Belize team to understand the work being undertaken in Jamaica regarding healthcare of older persons. A visit to the National Health Fund yielded valuable information about the availability of free medication to older persons and visits to community projects reinforced the importance of creating programmes that would encourage active ageing and healthy lifestyle choices.
