Belize Delegation to Brazil Conference, Dalila Castillo, Kamela Palma & Lindy Jeffery 

ECLAC/CEPAL 2nd Intergovernmental Conference
on Ageing took place in Brasilia, Brazil from 4th to 6th December 2007. It was attended by the Ministers representative, Ms. Kamela Palma, Chairperson of the NCA, Mrs. Dalila Castillo, General Manager of Belize Social Security Board and Ms. Lindy Jeffery, Executive Director of the NCA.

The focus for the conference was:

  1. Older persons and development
  2. Promotion of health and well-being into old age
  3. Creation of enabling and supportive environments

Lindy Jeffery gave a presentation on “Discrimination and violence against older persons: Advances in the laws and programs in the countries of the region.” Although Belize is far behind many Latin American countries when it comes to improving and implementing legal reforms that provide protection of Older Persons rights, as a young developing country, Belize is making strides in the right direction. During the course of the Conference all the Ministerial representatives gathered together and collectively drew up the Brazil Declaration:
